Question regarding inheritance..................?

My Mother died in 2003 there were 8 children and she had a large amount of land, she wanted the land divided amongst the children according to the debt the each owed to her, or assistance that she had given to each individual over their lifetime. One of the siblings was in jail due to personal choices, Before passing away Mom deeded the One childs piece of land into 3 of the other siblings names, and stated that as long as that Child was with her Husband that she was not to get her land (her husband is a drug dealer, nephew of local sheriff, yeah for real) anyway She is NOW out of jail and has NOTHING, and is crying that we are keeping her inheritance from her, she is back with her husband and she refuses to work and was recently diagnosed with HEP C, well needless to say she now needs to see a Dr, etc. She said she would take the family to court to prove the land was hers (which there is paper work, and the stress is causing her HEP C to act up) What do you think??

Honor your mothers wishes.If you still don't feel comfortable offer to pay her a small percentage of what the land value would be just to help her financially.Make sure she signs something showing what the payment was for if you do go this way.If she takes you to court she will have to pay a lawyer so chances are she can't do much about the situation unless there is a very large amount of land involved and she can get a lawyer to work on a commission abiding she sells the land after the case is closed.This would be highly doubtful.
Reply:No matter what, i think you all should be FAIR about splitting the land. You are all siblings, no matter who's in what situation, don't let someone's bad past cloud your judgements. The point is that you are all SIBLINGS (brothers/sisters). The best thing to do is to BE FAIR, MAKE SURE ALL OF YOU GET AN EQUAL SHARE TO EVERYTHING. It's a good thing to do, plus you don't want to cut out a sibling "just because...." whatever the situation. put the negatives behind you, you all should be there for each other, especially the sick one. You all need to be fair, be equal, respect each other %26amp; move on with your lives.
